F me if I ever get Nankang tires..

I had my daily Nankangs on my 240 last weekend (I dont drift them at all) and have about 60-70 % tread. Pressure is about 37-40 psi stretc 235 40 18 on 9,5 rims.

I was testing my top speed late night on an interstate and as soon as I reduced my speed to 80 miles/h the tire split from the edge in to 2 piece. Tires are about 4-5 months.

So cheap tires!!! DONT BOTHER TO GET NANKANG THEY ARE CHEAP BUT YOUR LIFE EINT!

LMAO. Nankangs are what I run stretched and I have never had a problem with them. The tire may have been old and the sidewalls may have been rotted. Its not safe to stretch tires especially not to do top speed runs. You should know that.

You are a fucking retard. Top speed on Stretched tires? Wow. If you want to run top speed you want to MOST contact patch possible. When you stretch a tire you are running on the shoulder of the tire. AKA the weakest point. That is where the thread meets the sidewall. There is not rear structure there. I'm 99% sure any tire would do that. You are lucky that didn't happen at the MACH SPEEDS you were trying to achieve.

WTF do you need to test top speed for anyway? Plan on racing a Supra from an 80 roll?

100% agreed.

I do top speed all the time... sometimes so fast that i can hit myself in the back of my head w/o even moving....

im in tears im laughing so hard

trust me I work with tires and I used them before for drift... that tire blows for any type of performance driving, they arent bad for the average joe who just drives in the city but for any other thing they FAIL!
I remember the only time I used NANKANGS for drift a chunk of tire came off and hit an xpectator in the face, and wen I got out of the car my friend told me so I had go to apologize... not cool
NEXEN FTW!

my bro-in-law put rims in his ca and they gave him nakanf tires and 3 out of the 4 split from the edge while driving long distances (1000 miles or something like that) he complaint to the store and the guy said it was a bad batch (other customers had the same trouble) but i have had nakang for my daily's and nothing has happen yet.. is just tought luck :p... but i wouldnt recommend it

This tread was opened to share my experience and here I tell you what.
The tire I described is an HR rated tire which is safe for 130 miles (more than my top speed). An 235/40/18 stretch tire is a safe acceptable rating for 9,5 rim . This means you can safely meet the max safe speed on these tires with those dimensions.

I searched and asked about all these information before I buy it. I bought these tires as advertised (affordable ultra high performance) . I see lots of people had problem with this brand. I wont get it again and dont recommend.

By the way Z4K , Your information might be true but it doesnt meet my criteria since I wasn't over the required dimesions so there for get my blown tire and use it the way you want for your needs..

That "Youre a fucking retard" was completely unecessary.

MANCOLOG: A 235-40-17 is BARELY stretched on a 9.5 wheel so the fact that the tire bead seperated from the wheels /lip is defenitely a mystery..especially since u were running 35+psi.
IMHO i think that tire already had some kind of defect or damage that u couldnt see...
The blow out wasnt caused by "Tire Stretch"...

x2 nangkangs just fail

had to stop puttin nankangs on the wifes corolla.....every tire would have a splice in the sidewall .....and wore down real fast. got falkens on there now and there awsome!

I aprechiate your kindness, What you said is partially correct, I did a little observation on the other tire the edge of wall and tread don't seem to be that resistant. defect might be a reason too.. They Fail..

Yeah that's not really a stretch. Sounds like a faulty tire. It happens, even to the best tires. Your tire pressure was too high though - 37-40psi is not good for the streets and you may have already damaged the tire (cupped them) whether you realized it or not. I'm guessing this was a rear tire since you're alive and well, could be wrong. Considering that as your speed increases, so does the heat of the tire and therefor the actual psi.

Looking even further, your tires were "XL" meaning they can handle extra load (which is a good thing for high speed runs). However, had you not checked out the tire pressure that day, it is very possible that you had some sort of leak that went unnoticed since the XL sidewalls are very stiff. I'm inclined to think this is the case b/c of the type of blowout you suffered. Anyone who's every ignored a tire with low air knows what I'm talking about. They split like this b/c a tire is literally like a balloon so as psi drops, the tire is making most of its contact w/ the street on the outer edges - exactly where your tire blew. Had your tires actually been inflated to 35+ psi, the blowout would have likely been different.

Anyway...

thnx for the lesson anthony... danm i knew tires were important but not so much to be checking psi.. from now on ill keep and eye on that thing.. lol is kind of like the bike you gotta check pressure every weekend :p:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: if not it will reallly hhhhhhurt! lol

haha how is stretching a tire reducing contact patch?? It's completely the opposite. Nankangs are just really shitty tires. I used them for drift once and they made brown smoke and chunked imediately. Worst tire I've ever used. Also 37-40psi in a 235-40 is not really too much, but I'd probably stay around 35 though. The lower profile you go, the more pressure you need to run. Just don't go over the max rating on the tire.

NEXEN FTW!

Truth. I ordered 4 of these tires thinking they would be ok for drifting (on the rear) and cheap to boot. Key word is cheap. The WPB qualifier was my first time on them and after my first 4 runs I refused to drive on them.

I had a set of half worn Nexen3000 (same tires I did the Homestead Demo on) and I used those for the rest of the event and then drove home on them. Yes Nexan FTW big time:bigthumbu.

On teh Nankangs I had Zero traction and after 4 runs it looks like they were about to start chunking... I could not believe how bad they were. I thought I had a broken suspension arm in the rear or something they had that little traction:ugh:.

These tires fail big time. I will never buy anything but N3000's now for the rear. Very good wear and grip and they are only slightly more then the cheapo's.
