You've got questions, we've got answers, at least that's the purpose of this thread. For those of you who have come to know how we function you can mostly skip over all this information but if you're new or never been to an event, this is the perfect thread to read up on what to expect. So let's get started with some of the basics.

Event Guide

The event will take place in Palm Beach International Raceway on Friday December 05, 2014 from 6:00PM - 11:45PM EDT. The Spectator fee is $15 but if you're looking to drive at this event, you'll need to go to the registration page at the US Drift Circuit website or click on the following link where you will find the "Buy Now" button that starts the registration process:

After your payment has been successfully processed, your ticket entrance can be picked up at Jackson Performance. While you're there you can take advantage of a tech inspection to give yourself time to sort out any problems that could prevent you from passing tech inspection at the event. In order to pass inspection, here are the requirements:

  • Helmet must be Snell/DOT SA2005 or newer.
  • No loose items in the car.
  • Radiators need to have brackets. No zip ties.
  • OEM seat belts or if a 4/5 point harnesses are in place, they must comply with FD regulations.
  • Seats may be OEM or SFI approved. Seat must be bolted at all four corners.
  • No cracked windshields.

Track Rules

Whether you're driving or spectating, we expect everyone to conduct themselves in a professional and courteous manner. Always be aware of your surroundings when moving around the track. Use your common sense where applicable and above all else don't act like a jackass. Failure to comply with any of the following rules can result in getting expelled from the track along with a ban from attending future events. This applies to both drivers and spectators:
  • Do as we say.
  • Drive slow in the pit area.
  • Don't drift in the pit area or anywhere else other than the track.
  • Be ready to show us your wristband when lining up to run. Both driver and passenger.
  • Stop drifting after the shutoff cone.
  • If you fail to drift a turn properly, do not go back and attempt it again.
  • Don't hit anyone or anything.
  • Take all your items with you after the event is done.

At the driver entrance you will receive a tech sheet, DO NOT DISPOSE IT! You will need it later for inspection. Once you've passed the main entrance, make a left to proceed to the pit area. Do not park your vehicle and/or trailer sideways in the pit area so that you could give room for others. If parking next to someone, present yourself to the individual and work on establishing a perimeter in order to avoid potential problems with misplaced or missing items.

Once you've gotten settled, prepare your vehicle for tech inspection by removing all loose items and unnecessary equipment such as coins, inflatable objects, CD's, tools, etc. When you're finished, make your way to the entrance of the track where you will find either Mitch, Brandon, or myself waiting to receive the tech sheet that was given to you at the main entrance. Be prepared to make repairs as we will vigorously inspect your vehicle from front to back, side to side. If you manage to pass inspection, you will receive a letter designating the group that you will be in, if not then you will not be allowed onto the track until you fix all infractions outlined during the inspection.

Depending on your skill level, you will be assigned to one of the following three groups:

Group A: The advanced group. Only tandem-approved drivers who also pass the tandem tech requirements will be assigned to this group. Each driver must be ready and willing to drive with another driver at the same time on the track. You can choose to stay close or far, ultimately it is up to both parties to decide on how they want to proceed.

Group B: The experienced group. Individuals who have attended several events or those who fail to meet the criteria for Group A will be assigned to this group. Just because you're experienced doesn't mean you'll be allowed to tandem with one another. Only one car will run the track.

Group C: The beginner group. If you're new or we haven't seen you before, this will be your group.

Each group will have a leader assigned who will oversee the drivers performance throughout the night as they will be allowed to switch drivers over to another group. For instance, if the Group A leader witnesses a driver failing to drive at the same level as the other drivers in the group, the driver will be re-assigned to Group B. If that same driver manages to improve throughout the night, they can switch back to Group A after obtaining approval from both Group A and B leaders.

Track Info

There will be two track layouts with two different groups running each layout at the same time. As that's going on, the third group will wait in the pit area for one of the other groups to finish. Each group will run one track layout for 45 minutes. Once each group runs both track layouts, they will take a break in the pit area where they will wait for 45 minutes for the cycle to begin again. If you're still confused about what I just said, let me try again to explain it.

Group A will start off in Track Layout 1, Group B will start off in Track Layout 2, while Group C will start off with their break in the pit area.

After 45 minutes pass, all groups will transition to a different area.

In this case Group A will move on to the pit area for their break. Group B will move on to Track Layout 1 for their second session. And Group C will go in for the first time to Track Layout 2.

This will go on every 45 minutes until the event ends. Each group leader will keep their drivers informed of how much time they have. Once the group leader says to stop, YOU HAVE TO STOP! The longer you take to transition over, the more time you're taking away from the other group. Also try not to wander off too far during your break period as you may fail to hear your group leader announce the group change.
