With the BDC season coming to an end a few weeks ago at Knockhill this weekend hosted by Drift Matsuri was more like an end of season party. The aim of the weekend was ‘Keep Drifting Fun’ which was most definitely achieved.

When the idea of Drift Matsuri first came about, it was difficult to not think that the mixture of Wales and October could only be a recipe for disaster; if there was ever an event to be plagued with bad weather, this was it! If you let that bother you, rather than looking at the line-up of seriously mediocre and unique cars that were expected then it was probably best to stay at home in your pajamas.

For us, it was time to pack the camera gear, head on the road and be prepared to hit up one of the most exciting looking events in the UK drift calendar! The track is large enough to have 3 different drift courses running simultaneously. A short hairpin track for beginners to find their feet on, an uphill twisty touge style track and a high-speed course for 4th gear drifting and plenty of backwards entries.

Getting there early on Saturday afternoon gave us chance for a quick look over the circuit and the awesome views from the track over the Irish Sea.

There were a queue of cars waiting to enter the pits before they get prepared for one of the very few night events that get held in the UK. Then it was down into the pits to get ready for Saturday nights Driftworks Night Fight, a night-time floodlit demo on the fastest track. As the sun started to set the teams did their final preparations before heading out.

As the night fell, the floodlights came on and the typical silence of the Welsh countryside was soon to be graced with the delightful sound of some of the UK’s finest going all out for a few hours of open-pit lane madness.

We were looking forward to seeing plenty of twinning action…
