ok, here's the thing my car does this weird popping/crackling thing at idle and it seems to get worst the hotter the car gets.

the car drives fine, and has plenty of power.

I can only run the car at with the ignition timing set completely clockwise(fully retarded) for it to run right and if i time the motor properly, it barely runs, dies out and barely has any power. i thought that the cas was stabbed a tooth off, so i tried that and it only gets worst if i change the tooth.

I bought the motor this way and dont even really know where to start.

If anyone has experienced this issue and has resolved it, please lmk what you did.
 
i have nistune... not on the car, but i have it. This would only mask the problem, not fix it

That is what is most likely making the popping noise you hear, If you have a wideband you will see the afr won't steady out at idle. I had a problem with the nuts backing of the exhaust studs that hold the manifold to the head and it would cause symptoms like what you describe.

i think that is advanced but not 100% and retarded timing will give u no power and run like shit

no dubmass as catalytic converter could be clogged. mine does that all the time at idle. thanks for being a dick peace

ok, since im a dumbass, tell me what 240s with sr20s have catalytic converters here in south florida.. seriously.. and if you meant catalytic converter, then type it, not cat

i do have a leak at the manifold that i have recently acquired, but this problem has been going on for months... and still doesn't explain the timing issue.

Also, the popping sound that I'm speaking of isn't coming from under the hood or anything, it feels like a misfire ant it'll pop/gargle from the end of the exhaust and the vehicle shakes a little when this happens.

compression is fine, i was thinking maybe stuck valve too, but the compression is fine and the new BKR7E plugs i just put in are at like 0.020. so it's not the gap and if it were a weak coil, it would get worst under load, but it actually runs perfect at WOT in any gear...

see, this is why im stumped, lol
 
^thanks man, i think this is what i need to check... not the ignition timing, but maybe the cam timing? either way, this should clear up both of those issues. :bigthumbu
 
i would change your camshafts first, you got the motor from pablo correct.... he shaved down the stock sr cams so they would appear to be aftermarket by stutering at idle, he tried to sell them to people but long story short, everyone new they werent real. so i would start with fresh stock camshafts

lol, yeah, i figured there was some shady shit goin on, but it was to sweet of a deal to pass up really.

Either way, i have new cams, just haven't put them in yet
