So I got the idea for this project from another blogger.

My mom spent $500 on some lights for her studio and I wanted to see if I could build something that would get the job done for 1/2 the price. Verdict..... I did. It's not as pretty but they work well. Now I have to build some soft boxes and buy some umbrellas maybe.

My lights are selectable and I can turn on one, three, or five bulbs. I have to add a mounting point to the bottom. In the end, I will use tripods I can get from Best Buy with a crazy employee discount as stands. I'm all haggard in the last pic cause I've been working my ass off, and who shaves on their vacation anyway??? That was with all the lights off and the 40D on auto. I didn't care to fiddle with anything when I shot it.

GE 100W CFLs. Temp range is 6500k. You can buy them at Lowe's for $10 for a three pack. I'm prolly going to buy some 5000k too.
 
dish light? I tried using some stainless steel bowls, and using some aluminum drop lights that are round and they didn't throw nearly enough light. This way after the reflector is built, it's gonna throw tons of light. I'm starting to build one more the end of this week.
 
I haven't done it but that's how my friend started out and his gave off plenty of light. It could possibly be the bulbs that your using. I know that the bulbs your using don't give off nearly as much light as the other regular bulbs. I don't know how to really describe them, the energy killing bulbs. LOL.
 
yeah they aren't quite as powerful as a spot, or higher wattage bulb, but they are SO much cooler temp wise.

If I can find 150w or 200w 6500k bulbs it will be delicious.
 
how much would u charge me for one of those capable to hold the big nvision coil bulbs.i just need the actual piece u built not the bulbs. those bulbs have so much lumen output and they last forever good shit
