lol so i am building my kade and so far i installed my clevite rod and main bearings (no they are not oversized,, they are the right size for my motor), new rings and got my cylinder walls honed, now the problem is i put everything together and once i put the crank case cover thingy in after torquing it down to about 10 lbs of pressure, the motor becomes hard to turn over manually and after about 20 lbs its like hell tryin to turn it over. (my fsm tells me to torque the bolts down to about 30 lbs of pressure). so im thinking this is because the bearings are new and not broken in. but now i cant torque the crank case down to the appropriate torque spec or else the motor wont turn over.. wat do i do? helps!

did you lube the bearings?

if so, what is this "crank case cover thingy" you speak of?

if the fsm says 30 ft lbs, then 30 ft lbs it should be

If you need a good machine shop in south miami, let me know and PM me.

it should be easy to turn over by hand you did something wrong or the bearings are wrong
ps not trying to be a dick but if u never done it before dont build it, if u want i will help u build it u pay for my gas and food and ill go to u and give u a hand building it and setting timing or whatever

yes i did lube everything up, and its the crank case, its wat bolts up to the block and keeps the crank in place. but anyways no one has really ans my question, has this happened to anyone? or wat could make this so hard wen i tighten it over 20lbs?

damn u live in the keys tho rite? how much money is that in gas? i might be down for this, i've been tryin to get someone that has built motors before to come help me jsut incase i got into problems like this, but everyone told me with an fsm i would be good... but yea i wana learn to do it not just have someone do it for me,and timing im not to concerned about because its covered pretty well in the fsm...

I like to call it the crank cradle. Cadillac owners know it as a case half, lol. Only reason it wouldn't spin freely after torquing would be the bearings are too big. Did you take the plastiguage measurements?

yea they came out str8 .020 i was talking to soem ppl on ka-t.org that run these bearings and they said their the right size and i posted up the same question and im still waiting for their response....

these are the bearings i bought http://www.enjukuracing.com/clevite-main-bearings-nissan-240sx-ka24-p-8526.html and they do say STANDARD SIZE

did u try rotating the crank, then reinstall the crank bearing girdle and see if you get them same readings? did u measure you old bearings? did you measure the main journals on the crank? also what are you using to attempt to turn the crank? a standard 1/2" drive ratchet is gonna take a lil more attempt vs something like a 18" 1/2" drive breaker bar

dude i think u should really get someone who has done this before showing you how to cause u seem to be having alot of problem sounds like something is either wrong part or on wrong

idk how it would be on wrong, and yea im thinking wrong part too, but on the website it says standard size, and the rod bearings seem to be fine.... btw wat kind of bearings are u runnin gon ur ka bro?

wow im a dumbass, i found my problem, i have 3 ka's worth of parts in my garage and i think i used an s14 crank case on the s13 ka i was building and i think that was my problem, switched out crankcases and bearings and now the motor is turnin over the way it shud, torqued at 33lbs with brand new clevite bearing :D thx for the imput guys its nice to know that u guys are tryin to help me out :p i love sfl! cant wait to play with the timing tomorrow and maib ill get it running this weekend or next....

Juan you're gross.

lol ur hilarious yo every post i make u can turn it around like that, lol i wana be like u wen i grow up

did you measure your crank and mains? it sounds like your bearings are way too tight. if your just going off what size other ppl use your way off. each crank and blocks are diff sizes and need to be measured individulally. really if this is your first build up of a engine you need a fsm and not the shitty haynes or chilton manual. then go step by step from complete teardown again to measureing each individual part and reassembling it all back step by step as the fsm says. once you get a few under your belt you can find diff methods of doing things and shortcuts. but for your first go by the book
