diesel talk, i have some questions

hey i know a lot of you guys that tow your cars have diesels, and probably work on them yourselves, so maybe you can field some questions from a diesel noob.

i just bought a 99 isuzu npr boxtruck with a 4he1, i was told it had a blown head gasket and so i got a crackhead deal on it. i towed it to my shop, put new batteries in it, and it starts and runs great. it's got 220k miles and there's oil in the coolant, and coming out of the breather hose, but the oil in the pan is clean, which leads me to believe i may have a broken oil cooler? i've been told it may also be my egr cooler. i'm getting a manual for the truck, but before i do, any thoughts on whether i should tackle the oil cooler first? how does an egr cooler work? any thoughts or advice are greatly appreciated.

My dad had the same truck for his job and they're famous for blowing the HG.

If you got it for a crackhead deal then nice find lol
