rwdrift said:^ Yes. There are very little instances where an N/A can outperform a boosted car. And in the end. A built N/A motor will be just like a boosted motor, sacrificing all of it's bottom end, for the top end screamer power. Guess what? It'll feel the exact same thing as turbo lag. The only difference is that what we call full boost, you call powerband instead.
From what I gather, the whole N/A craze is to make thing easily competitive and where it lets driver's skill shine. It gives a more level playing field (for the competitions and races that restrict to N/A only). Basically they try to keep everyone on the same car with similar specs and letting suspension tuning and drivers skill do the talking.
When it's do or die, boost is almost surely the best way to go. With proper math, you can have a setup that yield little to no lag and that still pushed massive power. And to those who claim about "throttle response".... yeah the N/A has that crazy throttle response, but it only shines when you guys have ITBs. And guess what? We can do that too. Throw boost with itb's and a sick intake manifold (+ some short mandrel bent intercooler piping if you want to be anal) and you got yourself great throttle response.
But that's just me. And I love boost.
