Cars That Still Have Soul

G

g.t.

The Lexus IS 350 thread got me thinking, the amount of cars with any sort of personality are disappearing. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of fine cars out there, probably more than ever. But leather seats, a bunch of electronics, and a swoopy body by themselves do not make a car have personality, and it's sad that it's getting to the point where only the grill or emblem is the way to tell what kind of car it is you're looking at.

So I started this thread to see which cars people think still have some character. It's different for everyone obviously, for me the criteria is a car that combines true style, some form of heritage, and a car with the driver still in mind. Something that doesn't look like it's been designed necessarily in a wind tunnel or a focus group. Driving dynamics are also important to me. I've broken it into categories, obviously in the sportscar and exotic segments there are still alot of cars that offer character, so here goes my list.....

Sports Cars / Roadsters:
Honda S2000
Lotus Elise
Mazda Miata
Chevrolet Corvette C6 (awesome bang for the buck IMO)
Porsche Boxster & 911
Nissan 350Z

Luxury Sedans:
Jaguar (mainly for their styling, still not diluted like all other Luxury Manufacturers)
Maserati Quatroporte

Compacts:
Mini Cooper / Cooper S
Mitsu EVO
Subie STI

Exotics:
Ferrari (pretty much all of them)
Aston Martin (all)

So there's my list of desirable cars to me, cars I would consider buying in each segment if I had the money. I ommited many cars which I think are great. For example, BMW. I love BMW's, the way they drive, and they're still great. I also happen to like the way they look even currently. They just have lost a bit of their soul IMO. Kind of like with the new IS, great car I'm sure, but it seems at the end of the day it's just another car, and if I'm spending big money on a car, I want to be driving something that puts a smile on my face every time.

Now lets see all of yours!

you really have hampton's old white fc? can i drive it? please?????

No it's still his, I don't have it, I'll be in it when it's done though. Right now it's sitting at RMJ in Oxnard, CA, waiting for the engine. Most of the events we'll be hitting are going to be out that way, but the car's looking good, it got a new body kit. As soon as I'm allowed to post pics on this site I'll post a couple in that thread. Next year we should be trying to hit all the Formula D events with it, pending a couple of things. So maybe then the car will find it's way out here at some point.

im sure that hes talking about the newer based models!!!

Yeah my rules are for brand new cars, to illustrate the point that the herd is thinning.

well out of the compacts you left out the

acura rsx type s
dodge neon srt-4*
chevy cobalt*

also the mercedes mclaren, saw it on top gear last night and that car has soul!

*ummmm....im not a big fan of domestics so dont quote me on that!!!

I would have to agree on the Honda S2000 as well. Its a very fun car to drive. Even with crappy tires it still manages to handle well. What caught my attention the most was how stiff the chassis was.

hmm also the

bmw m3 coupe
LAMBORGHINI (all)
Panoz Esperante
and dont forget the ever popular honda civic! LMAO!

Although my friend is going to hate me for this, but I don't agree with you on the RSX-S. IMO, it's more luxury than sport. I love how the chassis is stiff, but I find that car to be too comfortable. I would rather choose the Integra Type R.

yea i agree the type-r is a heck of a better choice, so sad that the geniouses never brought it over to the states (well the rsx style at least)

The A-Spec Badge Is Supposed To Stand For American Spec/USDM Type-R

Basically Its The Type-R Lip Kit With The Wing,Bigger Rotors,Better Suspension And 17inch Wheels......

And Yes Its Gay That They Didnt Slap The Type-R Badge..........

It's not a true Type R. It doesn't have the Brembo brakes, HID's, and LSD that comes in the Type R. Theres probably some more things the Type R has that the RSX-S A-Spec doesn't. The RSX-S A-Spec is definitely not a true Type R.

That is way off, A-spec is Acura's in house & dealer only useless upgrade division. All it sells is crap that makes no performance difference. The type-r also comes with a GPS navigation head unit, upgraded seats, and most everything inside, brakes as Bladder mentioned and a much nicer engine, no weak *** U.S. Spec limits on the engine.

Actually i read In A Honda Tuning That The A-Spec Kits Adds Minimal Downforce..

And as for a car that has soul you missed the Ford GT that car is amazing.
