HEy wassup...i was just wondering how many of yall would go ca18det if you had the chance to. I was also curiuos if they have any performance clutch and flywheel for the ca18det? :) HOLLA BAK

Yes They Do Have Performance Stuff For It, But In My Opinion If Iwas In The Market For An Engine Swap I Would Just Go With The Sr20det, For 3 Reasons: (1) Aftermarket Support (2) Very Tunable (3)sh*t It Plain Looks Better.

Yea true but i am trying to keep a budget...and go ca18det or ka24det turbo..But ionno i am confuse so much option but i want a cheap motor so i can get a nice expensive suspension system with a z32 brake conversion and sileighty conversion like yours. i wouldn't want a sohc casue it has no potential to me. Plus right no i have no motor.....Motor is disassmeble.... :(

There are a few CA fanboys on this site so be prepared for some very bias opinions.

The truth:
-The CA is not a baby skyline motor.
-The CA has lots of potential.
-Finding parts like cams or an alternator can be difficult. Others are so easy that Discount auto usually stocks them.
-The CA will most likely need quite a bit more TLC upon arrival than an SR so you'd better be factoring in those costs
-The head is more reliable than an SR20dets but you will blow your motor due to oil starvation if you try revving over 8 grand on a the stock blcok. CA fanboys love to call their CA's rev happy and say the SR's are like truck motors in comparison. They also have hydraulic lifters which is another limiting factor but the lack of rockers is a good thing.

I can go on if you'd like. CA owners though are usually die hard fans and very loyal to what they have. The CA community (like on NICO) will help you out finding parts and what-not. There's a CA demi-god living in Miami who can get you motors and tune fairly well. He probably know's the CA better than most even though he's still a fan-boy (by fan-boy I mean he'd have no trouble making up stories like - the sr was intended to be an economic replacement for the highly advanced and costly CA - I'm actually repeating what he's said years ago). His name is boostboy on Nico.

lol. Thats funny.

Nunook has a CA, perhaps you should contact him for help as well.

Its funny b/c it's true. That and CA's were designed along side RB's to be the best 4cyl performance motor. CA's can rev to over 9k stock. CA's have more top end power. CA's will always win highway battles against SR's. Blah blah blah...it never stops. :(

A ca18det is a very good rev happy motor, but if you get one i would suggest rebuilding before putting it in, with stock parts a rebuild will be only around $300 in parts (being that you were to do it yourself it would only cost you around that price) and like dori dori said there are ALOT of members on nico (240sx.org) that have ca's and can help you out knowing more about the motor. I've been a member on nico for a few years and i've seen many ca's making nice power on there.

Sounds like another S13 Slide. lol

<---CA FAN BOY FOR LIFE

I <3 CA's. I've always been for the underdog. With the ability to make a stroker from Junk Yard Parts whats not to love. They do need some TLC before installing. What do you expect. Timing belts go bad, Seals get dried out the motor is over 15 years old.

BUT THEY ROCK!

The Demi -God in Miami is BoostBoy on most forums VERY KNOWLEDGABLE! Very helpful!

WTF I always get involved, CA's nice motor, I wouldnt drop it in my car unless I rebuilt it or it was in VERY GOOD condition, but reguardless I would replace all the seals and crap....even so I would do the same if I got an SR. might as well do it before droping it in your car.

I love Ca's also my roomate has a CA18ET that we are converting to DET here pretty soon hell if he can afford the custom rods and pistions we will just use the CA20E sitting here to make a CA20DET but really I want an FJ20ET no other nissan 4cyl measures up to it I mean seriously when was the last time you saw a SR20 pushing 1100rwhp?? I mean there are people in aussie that daily drive FJ powered cars with more than 700whp out of a 2.0L 4cyl that was designed in 1978 ofcourse this is not on stock internals but they still have been known to handle 450rwhp on stock internals and handle it very well they are strong as **** and whats weird is even for their emense size they are still lighter than a KA

simple FJ > All

Who told you they were lighter than a KA? Having actually seen a FJ out of a car and messing around with it, I find that hard to believe. FJ's are the shiz though, no other nissan 4cyl hits the numbers a FJ has to my knowledge.

You'd be surprised. There's an active thread about this on NICO in the CA section actually. People are that stupid. :(

The Nissan FJ series engine was a straight-4 DOHC 2- or 2.4 L internal combustion engine produced by Nissan in the 1980s, first in 2.4 L guise as a rally motor for the 240RS, but then later de-stroked to 2 L for other models. The 2.0 L variant was used in the Nissan Silvia/Nissan Gazelle/200SX, and R30 Nissan Skyline. The 2.4 L variant was used in the S110 Nissan 240RS. While a 1.5 L variant was designed and a prototype built, it never actually went into production. It is acclaimed as the forefather of the SR engine. It has a magnesium head and an iron block, and was available in Japan and the UK. It was discontinued in the late 1980s due to its prohibitive cost.

Trivia

* Currently, the fastest 4-cylinder in Australia is powered by a built FJ20.
* Adam Carolla of "The Man Show" has had a rare-new-FJ20 installed in a Datsun 510.
* Other Datsun enthusiasts, as well, like to swap these into L or Z series powered vehicles, since they use the same block, and therefore the same motor-mounting-points.
* Weighs 366 lb (166 kg); the KA24DE weighs 394 lb (179 kg).

I think it has to do with the head being a magnesium alloy that gives it its lighterweight the only thing I do not like is that it only has 2 bolt main caps, but still it holds tother like a champ with only two

F..what?

If it was any better, I'm sure you hear it more often than CAs and SRs. I went to JustJaps the other day and saw a ****load of SRs, RBs, CAs..... no FJs. And FYI.... comparing KAs and FJs are like comparing apples and oranges. They are both engines, but their purpose was completely different.

Please stop googling answers.

The biggest problem with FJ's is finding one. The second biggest problem is finding parts. Both are very big problems and likely the number 2 reason why more people don't use em. Number one being most people in America have no idea what it is since it never made SuperStreet or Import Tuner magazine.

Dude man i want to see an all out race, trucks and car from each auto manufactor....and if i was incredably filthy rich I would have mazda build my chassis/Suspension, nissan build my body/interior, Honda Build My motor/tranny, and Have Toyota do all electronics and look over the whole car and take out anything that would casue ANY TYPE or unreliable ness. Sorry this is off topic... lol Anyways i like the CA, theres nothing really anything wrong with it besides the age....
