building a new drift car

as alot of you know i sold my 240.im about ready to purchase a new car something i can take to the track and drive on the street.. this will not be a daily driver it will have a roll cage and lots of mods im currently looking at a used c6 corvette or a 07 350z grand touring. im leaning towards the vette what do you guys think..

car will be set up for time attack more than drifting but i will definetly be drifting it .

man up and get a z06 :)

vettes make nasty drift cars, esp. c6's. 350z's need more power, but slide really easy.

IMO, Vette hands down. Beside's the fact that it out performs the Z, there isn't many vettes in the scene as we speak. Plus all Motor is the shyt. :bigthumbu

None of you ever tried to slide a Vette have you?

It requires work because it has the same fate as cars like the Miata and FCs, it has no steering angle whatsoever. Yeah, it's great that you have this whole monstrous power to kick the rear end out, but keeping it out (and transitioning) is VERY hard.

And since you dont see many vette's drifting left and right, this is something that needs to be custom done.... making it consider if it's even worth going through the hassle of custom work if the main focus isnt even drifting anyways.

It all depends on how much you're willing to compromise and how much drifting will be a part of your car's track attendance. If you just want to attend an event to throw the ass around, then get the Vette, rip it at the time attack and get it sideways at every event now and then. If you plan on drifting as much as you're time attacking, I'd consider something else. When it comes to new the 350z seems like the most suitable platform, but a new BMW would do wonders with an LSD and suspension work.

^^Are you referring to all vettes in general? Ive seen alot of c6 videos and it doesnt look like they have any issue's linking turns at all.

Maybe in the videos ive seen the vettes were modified, who knows. Although I remember watching a shift gear episode where they were comparing the c6 to the viper. Funny, the vette shined the most in the drifting segment. They were actually complimenting its handling charecteristics the most.

IMO, If what you're saying is true. I still rather have a Vette and make what ever modifications necessary. A 350z needs alot of work to stand in the same podium as the Vette. Thats just my .02 cents.

I had a C6 I was able to slide around in and you do feel that the lack in steering angle is ridiculously hurting.

Get the Vette. Steering mods are a lot easier than making 400hp from a 350Z and you will have a stock engine in the Corvette. Yay reliability!

If you want the steering mods, contact me, I've done it on a few cars.

+1 My LT1 camaro had the same problem, and that was nowhere near the power a c6 puts out. Easy as cake to get the tail out...but a bitch and a half to keep it there and sustain the drift.

335 or is250 rwd 6 spd

Damn, I totally forgot about the 335. Yea man get that. Forget the IS250, boycott Lexus for not offering a real transmission on the 3.5L

Get a 335i sedan (or coupe if you like, but I dont care for the looks of the coupe at all) 6speed and buy yourself a differential. DONE

Oh if you're not aware, the 335 is BMW's new twinturbo 3.0 I6 3series

BMW quotes the motor as having 300hp/300lb-ft but people are dynoing those kind of numbers to the REAR TIRES on stock cars, so you figure it out......

wow, you must be really rich. i have problems finishing my drift car and its a 89 s13, and you are planning to drift a vette or a Z33, lexus, BMW... holy crap, Bling bling....

I'm planning on building something that will will probably be expensive, dumb, and costly...?

Or I'll find a nice s14 or E36 for sale somewhere. :\
