bov help

How do you guys vent your blow off valves to the atmosphere (for those of you with 240s or cars with mafs)? I've seen like a million of them like this. i tried to do that with mine but under vaccum it opens so much that the car dies, I tried to put in a one-way pcv valve but it doesn't work properly. I have a volvo adjustable bov. I'm stumped... how do you guys do it!!!!

it should have a horn the shoots it to the atmosphere. make s the "shhhppp" sound. I have a turbo xs rfl bov, ALl of the afteramarket ones i think shoot to the atmosphere

i didn't ask how it sounds, most bov's make a sound like that and can vent into the atmosphere. i need to know how you get it to not open when it's under vaccum

tighten the srcew on top but dont tighten it too much or you will have surge. Do you have a boost control? Manual or elect?

it should be open on vacuum only when you first let off the throttle. ur bov could be messed up. try tightening it up if it's adjustable.

or is it like an external wastegate where vaccum doesn't make the valve move.. only boost??... my bov has a diaphram where boost from the line pushes the valve down and vaccum pulls the valve up... maybee thats why mine doesn't work well.

it doesn't have to do anything with my wastegate. I have an external one anyway. the bov is in perfect working order. It's an APG bov from a 4 cyl volvo turbo.http://thenew.gamesbbs.com/~vassago/pictures/volvo bov/108.JPG
I guess it is similar to the bosch style.

ALL I WANT TO KNOW IS IF ANYONE KNOWS HOW TO VENT THESE INTO THE ATMOSPHERE WITHOUT HAVING IT SUCK IN AIR WHEN UNDER VACCUM (from 750-3000 rpms and whenever not on full throttle).

**is there anyone except noobs online

your bov should always be closed unless you are letting off the throttle. it shouldnt be sucking in air. I have an HKS ssqv. It's the newest model so it doesnt have an adjuster screw. It doesn't open unless I have any kind of boost and I let off the throttle. Is your vacuum hoses collapsing under vacuum?

if your bov is open while the engine is idling/vaccuum, something is WRONG. it just shouldnt be like that, thats why nobody seems to give you helpful advice. As long as you have the correct vaccuum line going to it, all you can do is adjust the screw (if it has one) or change the spring inside (again, if its spring style)...

my advice... either run with no bov if you're trying to save money (cant really see any other reason to run that pos bov). or buy a new bov... bov's arent really required, so you can safely run without one.

ok, i already explained this but you need to hear it twice i guess... my bov is a different type...(bosch type...most stock bovs) It's not hooked up wrong, only a retard could not hook one up right. it opens when it is under vaccum because the diaphram sucks open the valve. When under boost, it pushes the valve down. When the throttle closes, the valve doesn't have pressure on it from the vaccum line but the pressure in the pipe opens it up and the pressure releases.

I put the whole turbo system together myself... all custom piping.. cutting, welding, more welding... everything. I have done engine swaps on tons of cars... i've put in hundreds of hours in working on cars. I know when something isn't working. A bov is a simple mechanism. The volvo bov is great quality. it is one of the best stock bov's out there. you call it a pos but you dont even know how it works-

I guess i am forced to recirculate it. or get an aftermarket bov.

no need to get all *****y. i dont doubt your uber hundreds of hours of skills, and im sure you know tons more than i do because you done tons of swaps.... :ugh:

ive read about bosch bovs, but never paid much attention to them...

Now that i think about it, what you said sounds normal. Im almost sure that the bosch style bypass valve that you have is actually meant to stay open while being in idle. Those that are like that either needed a pcv valve to run open recirc, but you said you already tried that with no success...soooo, because of that, you are gonna have to run recirc, another bov if you want it to blow to atmos., or dont even bother with a bov...

because you are saying yours has a diaphram, that leads me to believe that you really do have a bypass valve and not a bov. they are different. bypass valve uses a diaphram like you say yours has...soooo, these are open most of the time under engine vacuum (idle, cruise, throttle lift-off), but close firmly under positive (boost) pressure. This open style returns the air quietly back to the turbo compressor inlet or air cleaner area.

might be a little off, but i think thats the gist of it...

basically, the bosch valve you have is doing its job correctly. not really what you need it to do, thats why your car dies, but hey it is what it is... so from what i see, your options are recirc, new bov, or no bov.

you shouldnt come out sounding like such a prick if you're asking others for help...

run no bov for a month until you got the extra cash for an after market on. I ran no bov for 7 months, although that was with an automatic transmission. You will be fine for a few weeks.

tighten that adjustment knob all the way until it dosent leak at idle....... surge is inherent with a t04e compressor... you will get small surge then vent. its okay. mine dosent vent until about 4lbs or so, although its quiet.

thanks 240sickness, I just didn't want to buy one cause i had a good volvo one. i am stupid because i am thinking that all bov's leak under vaccum but it's a different type of diaphram that they have.

yeh, live n learn. I was thinking about going cheap on my ka-t setup while i started collecting parts.... then i thought about it and said it wasnt worth the hassel of rigging up 370cc injectors, mx6 Gt smic, rubber intercooler pipes and a volvo turbo w\ cbv and a safc. I decided it was going to be stupid ineffecient, and just splurged for the better parts.

wait a few weeks n fit a type rs or w\e bov's there are on the market today. what is the new trend? still ssqv?
