AMS Genesis Coupe build thread

Very impressive. I'll make it short for the guys that don't want to clicky the link. With bolt-on's such as a intake filter, basic custom exhaust and a manual boost controller it gained 36 hp. No tuning! Wish I had the money to purchase one.


Oh and BTW.....here's the link to Buschur's build up of a Genesis coupe!!! Let them hate and I'll watch Hyundai take over myself!

^you forgot the mid pipe, down pipe, intercooler and pipeing

it should easily make 300 with a good tune and better manifolds

Why the "S" in manifolds? Its a 4cyl....one manifold.....one turbo!



Okay this should to it justice then -

AMS prototype down pipe / mid pipe
AMS prototype secondary cat delete
AMS prototype cat back exhaust
AMS prototype intake silencer delete
AMS prototype front mount intercooler
AMS prototype intercooler piping kit
AMS manual boost controller


You get this -

With the 100% bone stock car and no tuning at all, we were able to run a peak of 18 psi dropping to 12 psi at red line (before hitting boost cut). We made 204 WHP and 249 Lbs Tq. (SAE Corrected)

With the AMS prototype bolt on parts and no tuning at all, we also were able to run the exact same peak of 18 psi dropping to 12 psi by red line. We made an incredible 236 WHP and 237 Lbs Tq. Again, peak Tq does not show the full picture as it happens well before the gains from the AMS bolt on parts.

That is 32 WHP gains from just the AMS bolt on parts at this boost level!!!! This proves that the stock components are choking the motor and the more you turn the boost up, the more the stock components are going to rob power. Now imagine the gains you would get from the bolt on parts at 300 WHP!!!

I hope you can all see why I am excited now. If not, the dyno charts Chris will post should explain everything.

P.S. Uncorrected (ACTUAL) numbers today were 241 WHP and 243 Lbs Tq!!!
 
Ahhhh, yes. A intake manifold would definitely put some nice numbers down. But at the same time could be very tricky on a engine that was designed for a very low end torque curve. Correcting the intake manifold would only move that power band up or down depending on design structure. We shall see, there are some back in the mother land of Korea that seem to be promising builds also.


Remember its basically a EVO X engine! The top (valvetrain) components are much different but overall the same.

for real i read the whole thread and there was alot of bitching about the intake manifold so assuming they can make a proper one it should give them a great power boost and smooth out the power band.
 
Sucks such a car had to arrive at such bad consumer times! I would have had mine parked out front if I had some type of job security in this freaking economy!
 
Awesome vid! Even though Dragon is one of the worst Hyundai tuners. If they can come up with numbers like that then the 500whp mark shouldn't be too far away. Oh wait how can that be, the car has only been out 2 months, HUH weird, HYUNDAI!

I'm betting 260's safely on stock turbo. After looking at the powerband, the stock turbo has to be small.

Just found it, 15psi is what AMS read on the dyno stock. That turbo is small.

Yeh whatever you say, I've heard a lot about you from M4nfred but when it comes to Hyundai's I know them pretty well. This is from Car and Driver, a pretty well respected car magazine. Similar references are made by top auto magazine motortrend. They also talk about the turbo. I Highlighted it for you. 15 psi is stock boost then dropping to 12. AMS has a manual pushing it to 18 then dropping back down to 12. I also highlighted where it talks about the computer being easily accessible by a Hyundai executive. And also where is states where it is capable of 29 psi. This car is built with the right things in mind, that's why it is going to be and already is such a great car.

One thing is certain: There will be lots of zoom parts available. The 1998cc four is the same basic engine as in the 291-hp Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, both engines being byproducts of the Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance, a joint venture among Hyundai, Mitsubishi, and Chrysler.

Similarities outweigh the differences, we’re told, between the Evo’s motor and Hyundai’s all-aluminum Theta four with its twin-cam variable valve timing and Mitsubishi TD04H turbo making 15.0 psi. Core components such as pistons and rods should move freely between them, for example. Hyundai’s engine uses a different computer, from Siemens. The software wasn’t intentionally made easy to crack, “but it’s not very tough,” says one Hyundai exec with a wink. That means up to 300 horsepower should be possible without major surgery.

The base coupe's 2.0-liter all-aluminum turbo four-cylinder is the fruit of the same Global Engineering Manufacturing Alliance that produced the 291-horse, 2.0-liter turbo in the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and 300-horse, 2.4-liter turbo that powers the Dodge Caliber SRT-4. Output from the north/south-oriented engine will be significantly less-212 horses at 6000 rpm and 217 pound-feet of torque at 2500 rpm-to give buyers a reason to pick the V-6. Hyundai did engineer some headroom for the tuning and drifting set; the blown and intercooled I-4 features a low 9.3:1 compression and can take boost up to 29 psi. Like the V-6, Hyundai is certifying the engine to run on regular or premium unleaded. With the latter, horsepower jumps to 223.
 
So there you go.....final verdict seems to me. 15 psi stock, 400whp easy, not EVO X engine but Lancer ralliart engine. I can live with that since a bare block new is relatively cheap. Wink Wink.

If you look to some of the responses in that website he talks about since the ralliart engine is a direct derivative of a EVO X is the reason for him taking the engine so seriously since Hyundai and performance usually don't go together, LOL.

Idk why you're talking about me w/ manny...kinda confused there. I'm sure you're very knowledgeable about Hyundias and I'm not trying to step on your toes, but its not an Evo-x engine. The 4B11T has a closed deck and 4 bolt mains while the Theta II has an open deck and 2 bolt mains and as you mentioned, completely different head. There may be similarities, but that doesn't mean they're the same. I'm not talking down on the 4b11t either - just trying to separate fact from fiction. I'm not concerned w/ what magazines are speculating.
