option 1.... swapping in another KA

option 2.... hold out for 2 months and Googoo goo go SR20det

what ya think???

if you can hold out, and have some other sort of transportation in the meantime, wait for the SR.

If you depend on the car to daily drive, then grab the KA.

SR swap done right is going to run you $3500-$4000...

otherwise you're risking blowing up a $2000 engine.

Keep that in mind.. I'm now just passing $4000.. (Ouch.. I know... ) Things like Koyo Radiators, Exhausts, Downpipes, Safcs, guages (Oil, water temp, boost,) motor mounts, BOVs, FMICs, IC pipeing, Clutches, waterpumps, nismo thermostats etc.. etc.. really add up fast...

oh yeah shipping on the engine ads a few hundreed $$$ to...

Will it be worth it in the end.. ? hell yeah

just don't see a $2000 price tag and think the swap is only going to cost that much...there are some BARE minimum things that need to be done that WILL bring it over $3000.

Actually... I'll sell you my SOHC KA, Harness and ECU for $150... it should last a few months and then you can just junk it... and swap in the SR. (I know it's a step backwards but... still it would give you a driveable car...)

SR swap done right is $2k. It's a stock Nissan motor. It does not need any other "done right" mods until you do power mods. Nissan did it right when it came out of factory. If not, no one would have bought the car when it came out of the factory, now would they?

I'm not saying dont buy better ****.... but I dare you to find me a handful of people who were able to afford $2k in mods the same week they afforded a $2k motor.

You really think you can just drop a SR in without doing anything?

What about the fuel pump?. The ka radiator does not work with an SR unless you use an adapter (extra hose and pipe going over to the other side) You're going to put in a higher HP motor on stock 15yo mounts?.. Even on a good motor stuff is going to be wrong.. maybe a bad thermostat or waterpump.. Broken/cut belts, clutch could be bad etc..

The tranny is going to need gear oil.. the engine is going to need motor oil and a filter, you should really use a new fuel filter...

Etc.. Etc..

Yes it can be done without doing any of that crap but each thing you don't do ads up more things that can go wrong and blow the motor...

Trust me... you do not want to cut any corners! (see sig...)

Nissan did it. I wouldn't mind spending $100 in a good tune up and some gaskets, but otherwise, yes.

I've seen (and still do see) an s14 SR being abused every day for over a year on a KA pump. Motor is still strong. (Not that I agree, but this is fact)

That's regular maintenance.... no more than $50.

Go on.

I dont see how you are cutting corners. You are putting a completely stock motor in a car and you already want engine management, gauges, cooling, and all this crap that isnt really necessary. As long as the engine is kept in stock form, maintenance alone will do the job.

KA ALL THE WAY :bigthumbu !!YAY :D !!SR's ARE GAY  buy a ca :bigthumbu or stick to your ka :p

sounds to me like kenrik is paranoid of blowing up a motor....sometimes caused by ....um.. blowing up a motor..

fyi, my s14 fuel pump holds pressure until about 14 psi from a t04e compressor. if you are careful you can get away with stuff.

get the ka.

nissan did it because it was brand new when they did it.. just like buying a used car, same **** goes for used motors, there is always something to fix on it.. if not, it cost more than others lol the question is, do you want a/c? if you want a/c plan on spending a lot of money.

plus wiring for the sr20 is $$$ so you gotta add that in too. plus exhaust, downpipe, etc. because the stock KA crap dont work with the SR

Like I said... maintenance. Not a complete overhaul. Using Nissan wasnt the best example, but SR20s are sold as running motors.... so nothing needs to be "fixed" really, just replaced/maintained.

A/C doesnt count...that's for pansies

Good point on the exhaust though. But you're still not hitting $3000.... maybe not even $2500.

Oh yeah I forgot about the wireing... that cost me a extra $100.. and the new exhaust was $200.. (See how well a SR runs with a stock 2inch crushbent exhaust... haha.. not a good idea)

A/C yeah... that sucks... I have to get my SR A/C tips welded onto my A/C lines... SUCKS>
