I have an 85 corolla base model coupe..SOHC and I dont know anything about this cars thats why I'm willing to learn how to do mods or simple upgrade that will make little or big diff from being stock.original carb and it's a clean car.5 spd.Let me know where I can start and I know some of you will tell me to do an engine swap but not ready for that..So plz ppl let me know what I can do with this car.basic maintenance???
I will post some pics later.Thxs in advance....

got a long way to go, just, do some research, but, ur gonna need to swap out the 4ac......gts rear end, maybe some some springs, the usual thing, but putting parts on the 4ac is a waste of time imo

Don't do anything to the engine. It's not worth it. Get a GT-S rear end. Not to sound like a salesman, but I have one with LSD that I must sell. I need $300. So if you want it, come and get it. Other thing is this, when it comes to suspension, don't be cheap and buy Megan Racing springs, buy some TRDs and a set of short stroke shocks. it should let you have fun. Remember, if you want a GT-S rear end, I got one for 300 bucks.

ok, any price info on diff engine I can use??installed.the gts rear end sounds good but don't u think I should take care of the engine swap first???more info will be great.thxs guys

Can I do a simple maintenance right now while I'm looking to get the engine and rear end done.anything I can do with the carb.to clean it with.the rear end gt-s is it hard to install??r u willing to help me install it if I buy it from u and I will pay you for helping.

Well, m4nfred just bought it off of me. It happened to fast. I've never done the rear end swap. But people tell me it's not hard.

Well, I guess the first things I should ask are how much $$ are you willing to spend and what will be it's purpose(i.e. drift/track car, daily, weekend warrior, etc)? The best thing is to make the car reliable in stock form, make the car a good platfrom to start off you know? It would be a good idea(cheapest swap also) to swap in a Bluetop engine(stock on the GTS) and you will need a gts rear end. The reason being the aftermarket lsd's are made for the GTS rear, those will help out later on. I'll be sending you and e-mail soon, with some sites that may help you out also. Welcome to the 86 club and any problems feel free to ask me and I'm sure anyone else on here wouldn't mind.

P.S. Club4ag is you friend when you own an ae86. You should go to the "tech reference" page and read some things when your bored, good info in there.

first of all change the oil and all the fluids...check for leaks and change your tranny fluid also. don't use oil that is too thin. go to the bank and get a checking account. you will need it. buy a corolla gts engine at a junkyard and work on making it as reliable as possible while your car moves on the power of the other engine...when your engine is finished buy an lsd from a gts and rebuild it or get an aftermarket one, get some suspension techniques springs or trd ones ... try to find some low offset wheels... like a 15 by 7.5 or 8 all around would be great... get a short shifter....and buy some front and rear strut bars...now that your garage is full of parts take a week off from work and put it all together. this is the best way, i think, i've never done this but i wish i had...it's hard to find some of the parts and they can be expensive but just hump it out and don't think about money...think about how much fun your car will be.

well if you want to change it to a gts i have alot of the parts needed i have a gts rear and gas tank (witch is needed to do the diff swap) $300 i have a gts wireing harness for a gts $50 bucks gts head witch has been redone for $100 gts tranny $150 gts seats $100 bucks for the pair plus a bunch more just let me know

cool, thxs guys for the help and info. This car will be another project car that I hope I will actually do the upgrade and finish it from other peoples help.I also have 2 other daily cars and I'm planning to have this car to be a unique and probably be drifting it too whenever I get some mods done including engine swap to rear end swap...
I owened 4 s13's and now I also have an s14.This is my first hachi roku and it's more adventure and diff that my 240's.Can u recomend me to anyone can do the swaps for me??LMK.just to let you guys know that this engine was rebuilt last year and now has about 159K.Thanks again guys.

I almost forgot to mention it. I would either buy or make your own oil catch can. On the stock ae86 engine(the bluetop), the head has a faulty design that causes the oil to flood into the intake during higher G-loads that normal(drifting, spin out, donuts, transitions, etc), some more than others.

Let's just say I learned the hard way, when a massive amout of white smoke(burnt oil through the exhaust) was coming from the rear(I wish my car's tires could produce that much :D ). You'll need an oil catch can in the future anyways. By getting one soon it will save you some clean up time and a huge scare when white smoke goes out your exhaust. That's pretty much for any ae86 owner that plans to drive the car hard or drift it. Toyota fixed the later model 4AGs head designs(the Redtops, 20v's, 4agze's).
