3s-gte in AE86

I know this has been done before, but i wanted to know if any of you guys have any knowledge of the swap EX. what tranny to use?
The 3sgte is from a 97 MR2 from japan upgraded turbo, cams and pistons
Any Ideas?

yeah i tried this idea a few months ago its like ...proffesional only type custom stuff

why would you need a 3sgte?? why wouldn't you use a 3sge... much better for drifting IMO but what do i know

3sgte is a lot of power.. i dont know if you know what happens to lightweight cars with over 200hp but they tend to get crashed, especially by owners that don't know what they are doing.

3sge 180ps stock = much better/reasonable/suitable/cheaper swap :bigthumbu

Yeah dave up here has one with a 3SGTE in it and it is ****ing badass he still owes me a ride in it but its like over 300hp and it only weighs like 1800lbs

But yeah ALL very custom work very proffessional and extreamly expensive and dave said if he had to do it over he would just do a turbo 4AGZE

yeh you have the cool factor of a custom setup, but maybe to the owner it might not have been worth it. He\She could have accomplished the same goal with the usual "swap.

becuase if you are going to go all custom on a swap as in this instance. Go baller and make more of a headache for your self when it blows up. :) everything will blow up.

First off you need to prep the engine. Seeing as how all 3S-GTE's are in FWD layout, you would have to make a custom intake and exhaust manifold for RWD layout. Then theres the issue with how the engine sits. If you notice, 3S-GTE's sit at an angle in the engine bay compared to other engines. If you don't place the engine at an angle, you're going to have oil issues since Toyota designed the engine to sit at an angle. Then theres the wiring. First 3 ECU plugs you won't have to worry about since they deal with the engine. But the fourth ECU plug you're going to have to mess with. Also the COR (Circuit Opening Relay) and the fuse box need to be dealt with. Almost forgot, you might have to extend the whole engine wiring harness or cut a hole through the firewall to pass the harness through it. For the drivetrain, I've heard of people using W58 transmissions with a custom bellhousing. You might need to get a custom driveshaft and a different rear-end. Celica Supra rear-end's have been known to swap over.

I know I must be missing a whole lot of details and I could be wrong with some of the details, but I know for a fact that this engine swap ain't easy. You would definitely need time and money to do this.

And now that you have all this time and money into it, would you still do it? Or now that you know that this is going to cost more then 8 thousand dollars in parts; would you consider another project rather then this one?

Come back to realilty, and only think about things like this if you can do all of it your self. I do alot of custom work for people and even an external oil pump bracket for a sr20 I charged about 175. For a stupid aluminum bracket made to his specs in his location, 65$ an hour shop rate isnt cheap when you add it up.

What if something breaks?

want turbo? use a gze block.

I don't think it's going to blow up so easily seeing as how the 3S-GE's internals are almost the same as a 3S-GTE (I say almost because they obviously have different pistons.) Either keep it at low boost or upgrade to lower CR pistons. Which brings me to my next point, If you're going custom with everything, why don't you just go custom with the engine as well. The money you save with buying a 3S-GE, you could build it up to be either better than a stock 3S-GTE or have it be more suited to your needs.

it depends.. but everything will blow up. Even if you are cruizing north on i95 at 100mph and a radiator hose slipps, or you forget to tighten your oil drain plug, or you dont change your oil at all, thermostat dosent open and you over heat n blow the head gasket, or decide to trust the wastegate spring rating for the amount of boost you wish to run with out a check from a boost gauge....... i can keep going and going on how people have blown up engines here locally alone.

it will blow up. Would you want to redo everything you did to fix the disaster, saving your project?

I have another engine and transmission to put in my car when my crap explodes. Not everyone has the time or facilities to ressurect their baby especially if its a one off custom job.

try another suitable easier drop in swap engine for your car.

Same can be said with any car. If you don't keep an eye out for things and properly maintain it, problems can arise like your engine blowing up. Or a hose ****ing up requiring you to go to AutoZone before an event. :D

try another suitable easier drop in swap engine for your car.

+1 again.

unless its a v6 from toyota, sluge problems galor....you can take care of them and the sluge will aprear....what a pos. ahah i know this is going to psis you off bladder lol.

Don't talk crap Mr. "I don't want to drift it cause I'm afraid my KickAss engine is going to blow."

If i recall i went to atlanta drifted and came back, no problems.....and yet no sluge even at 153K miles lmao. its ok i would be psised also if i had to swap in a 3S-GE in my celica just to KEEP UP with DOHC ka's, just to name a few, dans white S13, me driving juans old coupe beating your ***, and my brothers S13 sure would rape you a new one.

Getting back to topic, buy a 4A-GZE, sell the S/C, turbocharge the mofo, and you're good to go. :bigthumbu
