Thought some of you might be interested to know I won a pretty major Kayak fishing Tournament!

5/2 - Fished the IFA Kayak Tour in Titusville on Sunday!! The weather was pretty much ridiculous, 20 - 30 mph gust and blowing a steady 15mph but my new Native Watercraft Mariner 12.5 Propel handled it like a champ. I decided to fish the south lagoon as I had pre-fished there the day before, but unfortunately the wind never laid down and the south lagoon dropped about a foot of water in 36hrs, and the fish went with it. Worked the south end real hard, by dragging a 5 gallon bucket behind the yak to slow down my drift. Worked like a charm, but still no fish to be seen. Around 10:30 I made a crucial call to move to another location further north of Eddy Creek. That was all it took to put a 1st Place trophy in my hand. First drift produced this nice 29" red on a Zoom Salty Super Fluke jerk shad, Gamakatsu 2O worm gap hook, on 10lb power pro and 20lb vanish Fluro, St.Croix Tidemaster 8'0 medium/ Shimano Sustain 4000.

Get him all photo'd up and released nice and happy, get my jerk shad reset and back to drifting. Bam another huge wake plows my jerk shad and i'm fighting my 2nd overslot redfish!!!!! This guy takes some time to get to the yak, but after
a nice fight and few curse words I get him in and start the CPR process. He measures up to 30.3"!

Now i'm feeling very confident about a win for biggest Red but I still need a trout to get the Red-Trout combo for over all win. We had about an hour of fishing left but could not get any of the bigger trout in the area to eat. As the clock ticked away so did my chances or so I thought! We pull out at 1:30pm at the north end of Playlinda beach rd. I now have to load the yaks, pick up my truck, and get to south Daytona by 3pm. It was going to be very close. Literally with seconds to spare I dove through the entrance of the Kayak shop where the weigh in was being held. I had made it!!!!!! Hand in my score card and camera and pretty much collapse on the floor from the days events and 2 days of prefishing that had me whooped. Ended up winning a Hat and $100 gift certificate to Cabelas in the raffle and then we got to the awards ceremony.

1st Place Biggest Redfish!

And due to the fact that only 3 people caught fish and no one got the Red-Trout combo I won Overall with just my 30.3 redfish!!!!!!!!!
