1jz-gte question

From all my research and shit its always been that to install a 1j or 2j into the IS300 I needed driveshaft, piping, ecu, and mounts.... Recently I heard that if I got the 1j from a Toyota Crown it would be a complete drop in swap and I could use the driveshaft and everything. Any truth to this or complete bullshit??

I dont see how it would make a difference what car the 1jz is coming out of... Seeing as the mounting points on the motor transmission would be the same... If you are running a 5 speed w58 tranny on your is300 you shouldnt have to change your driveshaft because your tranny will remain in the same place. So regardless out of what car your getting your motor, all you would need is the motor itself and re-doing the harness, intercooler piping, etc. hope this helps.

I call bullshit on the mounts. The 2j block has about 6 or so holes made for mounts on either side of the block. So its just a matter of figuring out where your mounts need to be on the new motor. If your keeping the w58 you shouldnt have to change anything how ever if you swap over to an r154 or v160 then of couse youll need another d/s

Definitely using r154. The guy swore up and down that everything bolts up... I figured it wasn't that simple or more ppl would already be doing it like SR swaps....

you are correct my friend, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is!

If youre running an r154 you will definately need a new driveshaft, as well as a r154 slave, clutch, etc. A new differential(or at least the gearing) is also recommended. Im not sure if you require the extended shifter housing for the is300. the brackets should be the same as your stock ones from the 2jz to mount the motor.

definately not that simple.....

just like everyone is saying.unless you keep the w58 youll need ds,slave, clutch, flywheel , etc for that r154.plus you have to figure out if the r154 crossmember will bolt to the is300 as well or if you have to mod it.you might be able to get away by using the crossmember of your w58 as some people do in the sc
