According to everything ive read, you are on the right track, vvti rods are skinny, but the actual block casting is the same(?) So maybe use non vvti internals in your vvti block? Then you won't have to stress about changing wiring and such.

it's fwd, why are we even talking about it? it's aimed at the civic si, and i personally swore to myself 12 years ago i'd never drive one of those again. The turbo's exhaust manifold and turbine housing are integrated into a single stainless steel piece, so upgradeability will take a long time...

You can buy metal polishing kits that attach to angle grinders, one if those will make the job way easier. You can also get water fed grinders like they use for stone polishing, all of that seems like a lot for fake wheels though.
