OVERSTEERING PROBLEMS

Hey guys so I didn't really know if this was more of a tech question or if it's just my technique that's off but for some reason I'll be mid drift, full lock but adjusting throttle (kinda coasting) and then all of a sudden the front just slips and I spin out... Also I put brand new tires and adjusted my alignment. Lol it's really getting me mad thou because I feel like I'm getting a good line and then just randomly the front takes a crap on me..

Ps. Could this be fixed if I use the e-brake right before its about to slip? Thx

by adjusted alignment what do you mean what specs are you running. and give us some more info on your set up. what car, what mods, tires...

most likely though its technique and not the car

I have a 91 240sx hatch, my front wheel specs are: 15x7 on 205/55/15 I did the alignment myself at school and put camber to -3 on both sides and .5 degrees positive toe

If it is my technique what could I do about fixing this? Cuz honestly when it does happen I feel like I'm doing something right and the front just randomly lose front grip.. It's weird cuz I can link the skidd pad fine but sometimes the front can't hold grip

15s are fine. Grabbing the ebrake would make you spin out harder. You're probably just giving it too much throttle with not enough counter steer. I slid my coupe for a year on 15s before I went up to 16s and never had an issue.

the 15s arent his major problem but with a lot of side wall flex would be leading to improper throttle control. like i said early it is probably the technique but those narrow 15s arent helping.

could it be that you are simply asking for too much angle? stock tie rods?.... bad ball joint could make wheel floppy at angle...

maybe you need wider rears?

how are the fronts taking a crap if you are spinning? you would push/understeer if you had fronts that were giving out.

could be a number of things. what size tires are you running? what psi front and rear? motor setup? suspension? welded diff?

and usnig the ebrake can help sometimes, its all depending on whats going on with your momentum and what is the next part of the course. sometimes a little footbrake might help too.

ok, before i adjusted camber it would understeer like a b**** i also had shitty tires up front but still it was ridiculous, for the tires i got 205/55/15 normal 32 psi and rear about 35 to 40 as it fluctuates when heated... and im running an sr20 with a 180sx vlsd and coils as stated before

BTW thx for the all the feed back :bigthumbu

At what part of the track do you find yourself spinning out ? Right after initiation 2nd cone 3rd cone etc . Do you hear tire rubbing or a weird noise while spinning out coming from the front .

get like 225 nice tires up front. will solve 90% of your problems. unless you are running EXTREME camber, it isnt going to kill you. i run minimal (3*-4*) and others run close to 6+

Most of the time it happens right after that first cone ill be trying to extend to the next one and ill hear the front tires screech but its like a low pitched one not like the normal tire scheech noise from drifting.. lol but yeah i hear that noise and the next thing i know im spinning

I run a 175/60/16 tire up front now bc I wanted to be stupid. Lol but alignments right around 3* camber and just a little toe out, haven't had a front grip problem since I've used them except on soaked blacktop. Run around 30 psi

You are probably giving too much angle like boxmod said try not to give it too much angle. also make sure you counter steer at the right time. if you counter steer late into the first cone when the rear decides to kick out you will always spin out .

you could be so much more confident if you ran better size tire. ask bill fisher how i said about his car "working" on the tires he had, but his car looked slow (back like 2010?)... now he still kills it and is fast.

the quality of tire is also important. you'll see guys with 245s (like myself) on 240s and larger on different chassis... 265-285s etc on fronts!

And on how wide off a rim u run em on? Just wondering cuz I have some 16s I use as drift spares but maybe if I put em up front that could help my gripping problem

If you run shit front tires, then of course you won't be able to have any control of the grip. Stop using old and mis-matched used tires and pony up and get proper and grippy front tires.

As far as spinning out, sounds like you're just running out of stock angle or being overzealous with the throttle- or both.

Well wat type of mods could I do to get more angle without having to get knuckles?

tie rods with spacers is about it... around 100-130 for decent set of tiens i think?

my wheels are 18x8.5 in front... but you dont want 245s anyways. 225s on a 7" wide will be fine. diameter being 16s is fine. there are reasons to change but dont worry about that. you can drift at 75mph on 15s (I was on 14s when doing 65mph drifts back in the day), its more about the width and rubber quality.
