was over at roadsterdrift, it seemed most of them run high psi like 55 or higher (for their tires!).
chelsea was shocked people ran that high. he said after months of testing anything over 28 was a waste and running that low allowed him to accelerate out of the corner. last countyline i had trouble accelerating away from the sweeper and i was running 45psi, might have been the rain though. what do you guys think?

the rain def. makes it harder to accelerate simply because your just not gripin due to the wet surface.

the only reason i would ever use such a high psi in the rear, would be to loose traction andlet the rear end slide out...other than that i think its unsafe becuase as the tire gets hotter it builds more pressure rising the initial pressure inside the tire.

lower psi on a tire gives you a greater contact back becuase the tire sags so in a sense it will grip better...but it depends on the tire as well..if its a shitty brand or selection (like all seasonals or normal tires) the sidewalls might not be strong enough to take extra stress which rests now on the sidewall making them break or shread. but if you get a nice performance tire i am sure it will hold the extra stress since they are generally made stronger.
 
i run between 25-45 depending on the conditions normally 30-35 i like a little grip too. Plus my tires last much longer and delaminate less frequent.
 
when i first read this on the home screen i was thinking turbo psi and my mind was blown till i read some respones and saw what section it is in
 
With the Coopers in previous years, brand new tire I was starting at 27psi. With the Nexens now, I start right around 30 as they have more grip so I need more slip. I also change from 235 to 245s.

Remember PSI increases as the tire heats up, so cold psi is generally about 3psi lower than operation psi in fronts and about 5-6psi in rear or more. Learn what your car does to tires, then setup how you need. More front grip (lower fronts some) more rear slip (raise rear some). This is why first thing, and Bill Fisher can attest to, the first thing I ask someone when helping them is: "What PSI are you running?" usually getting a IDK repsonse.

My Examples:
IRL Demo cold 28psi front and about 34psi rear oin 225f/235r
*High Grip racetrack due ot rubber from indy/other cars, fast speeds
West Palm SFL Fairgrounds cold 28psi all around on 225f/245r
*Decent Asphalt and slow speeds (under 60)
Tampa Hot Import Nights cold 28psi front and 20 psi rear on 225f/245r
*Blacktop and slower speeds (under 60)
FD Road Atlanta cold 28psi front and 37psi rear on 225f/235r
*Atlanta was on a actualy road course, major elevation changes, and higher sustained speeds.
 
i run 32 psi front and 45 rear it makes it have decent front grip and the ass brakes out nice and easy. but i also run a larger sidewall tire then most 185/60/14
 
it all depends on how much power u are putting out and the size of the tire, more importantly the sidewall, i run a stock single cam and 195/60/15, the last set i had was falken zeix idk the number i think 512's and i run 29 front and 45+ in the rear and im thinking of upping the pressure even more!
 
yea in my stock single cam I would goto the junkyard, find a 240 with 2 matching wheels/tires that have been sitting there for god-knows-how-long, buy them and put them on the car at like 45/50 psi and rock them all day lmao. WAY dangerous, but it was slippery for that sohc! The ones I remember were 195/60/14s lmao. Front at the time was some new Toyo Proxes 225/50/15. I had a set of 4 because I was also into Autox back then.
 
ive ran old ass dry rotted tires at like 52 before so far so good :knocks on wood: i never popped a tire ever so thats one of the things that stays in the back of my head but everyone tells me its no big deal popping a tire mid drift 45+mph
 
yea it would only really suck on initiation or on a transition- since you are relying on that tire to control the cars angle. while mid-drift, I've had several blowouts and sometimes its near a wall/oval and i just relax off the throttle and slow up. it shouldnt be too bad unless you got unlucky.

worst part is when it blows and flaps/pieces break your fiberglass kit >< happened 2nd DAY I had my first kit)
 
ya with my ka and my sr i usually ran my tires at like 30-32, if i get my hands on some sticky tires i might bump it up to 35 but now with my sr i run like 25 or 28 cuz the tire tends to wear more evenly considering my camber kinda sucks. but it also depends on what kind of drifting your doin, if your just screwing around doesnt matter but if your doing tandem or gymkhana your gonna wanna try to get as much grip as possible
 
Not that it even matters to us, but I have an Option DVD of all the different tire setups that the D1 guys are using. Some guys are running up to 63 psi, and the average J-dude was doing about 50 psi. I understand that they use much wider and grippier tires than the average drifter, but can anyone explain why so high?

I ran Falken ZE-512 back in the day. 185/60/14. F:32 psi and R:40 psi. When I get back, I am gonna try all different kinds of tire setups to see what I like. It's been too long though. lol.

When I run Maxxis (235/40/17) I start em at 50 cold cause once they get hot, they're super grippy. Any other tire, I start at 40 psi cold, and usually go down.
In the front I run super low pressure. like 25 hot.
If I can fix my chassis, and I do the motor set-up im plannin on, Im gonna run 275/35/18's or 275/40/17's Nexens at like 30-40psi. cause I spit hot fire.
