So i was conversing with a friend o mine and he's thinking of dropping the VG30ET in his Zenki. Anyone here know of someone who might have done this or know anything of it?:bigthumbu Thanx

NO go VG30DE or VG30DETT the VG30E-t is kinda of a pos motor not to mention i hate nissan SOHC motors, i know they use the same block, but a VGDE in a S13 or S14 looks like its sopose to be there.

^READ UP ON THAT, the VG looks so baddass in a S13 if i had the money and was going to do a swap a VG is the way i would go, they weigh alot, but i liek the fact that there so far back against the firewall, just reseal the whole motor, and get rid of ALL emissions cause thats what makes them unreliable not to mention it cleans the engine up ALOT.

Will let him read this, personally id do a vq but hes looking for a vg. How hard is it to drop in there?

I was thinking about doing this since I love those old SOHC torque monsters

I have seen it done a couple times

was researching and theyre able to reach 1000 hp. Not my cup of tea but the fact that it can is cool

i think there's a guy on this forum that has a vg in his 240. the swap was for sale in the classifieds section iirc.

I would do it, I loved the VG30E in my old S12 I beat the shit out of that thing for 2 years and it had 230,000 miles on it, it never gave a shit. The thing that did that car in was electrical problems. The engine was still kicking hard. Loads of torque and pretty decent revablity

the DOHC engine is a wast of time IMHO because it ads so much more weight and complexity when you can make just as much power with the VG30E and have more room in the engine bay to work on it.

it is an awesome engine. my sis had a 91 maxima which nissan called the 4 door sports car but it was a vgde. Loads of torque and the sound it makes was pure sex. unfortunately its has totaled after some dumbass stole a navigator got shot and hit her car.

heres a vid of a vg30de swap

I dont know man 164hp to 221 hp just by adding a couple or cams and valves seems worth it to me. and this is just n/a, the turbo SOHC VG only ha dlike 205?

yeah well i've read people being able to get upwards of 250hp n/a out of them with some headwork and larger durration cams

they had a pretty low compression ratio of 9.2:1 and low durration like 212* cams, plus a very small throttle body.

its just my preference also the fact that there is alot more room to work with a SOHC

Any vg motor is great if you ask me but didn't the de and dett come with vvl heads?

NO, VVL stand for Variable Valve Lift which is found in FWD SR20 NEO engines. The VG30DE and VG30DETT use VCT Variable Cam Timing on the intake cam only, similar systems are on RWD s14 and s15 SR20, and RB 25 and 26 engines.
