My buddy JDM180 was hearing sounds from his motor. A rattle sounds from around the turbo area. We thought he blew his turbo or somthing, but when he went to check it, the turbo is fine. No shaft play, no missing blades, nothing. Compression tests were perfect all the way across. But we did see tthat one of the studs holding the turbo to the manifold was loose and you could wiggle it. Has this happened to anyone else before? Would this loose stud cause any further damage or just cause the funny sound? Any insight would be much appreciated.

if your buddy doesn't have the factor locking plates for the nuts it's very possible one came loose, and yes it's very possible the whole stud worked itself loose from the manifold. As the turbo gets hot and cools the metal expands and contracts and with all the vibration etc. over time it can definatley happen...did he tighten up the stud/bolt and the sound go away? If so i wouldn't worry about it. :bigthumbu
