s13 Rear Overfender "installation"

I recently bought some +50mm Rear Overfenders for my s13 coupe.

They line up beautifully, but I am curious if anyone has experience with fitting and molding these to the quarter panel.

I've done some research, and found that the best and most common way to add rigidity to the panel, is to fill the inside with "Great Stuff, Expanding Foam".

I would imagine body filler would work to "mold" the panels to the surface.

Any insight?

i do belive that if you can do some more reserch you will find that people use the body filler with fibers in it to mold it to the car. reguar bondo would crack. as for the foam to take up space in between the body and fender, sounds like a good idea to me. gl
 
How do you want to do it? The right way or the half asses way?

The half assed way is line it up mold it on with filler paint

The right way it is put it in place mark inside where to cut the qtr. Cut the qtr, bang in the inner qtr weld & prime the attach the Over Fender.

by anychance do you have pics of this....mmmm now that i think about it i have a spare shell laying around.. i might experiment on it.
 
ive been though this sort of thing on other cars, when you speak of cutting out the quarter you mean only to the insde of the wheel wells right not entirely to the end of the over fenders? doing it all the way to the over fenders looses a lot of body rigidity in most cars, not sure of a 240.. but any flex at that point will cause cracks in the final product.
 
are you asking or telling us this? and also that is why we weld the inner back to the outer shell again so that the strength ( and seal) are there. that should pretty much bring it back to a stock strength, and not allow flex
 
i was working on my car just now installing all the rear suspension and relized that the rear isnt that hard to do. you can cut it just about flush with the inner wheel well right to the out side. it just kinda clicked just as i was sitting under the car putting my axels on..
 
def. have to reweld the inner seam back to the outer. Once they're welded back together, it will still have its strength.
