I might be back to working on the z, and I'd just like to hear the opinions/experiences of some of you on this site. As far as the best bang for the dollar, is it best to to with a low mileage/jdm/w.e transmission, or getting your current one rebuilt?

Probably a dumb question(?), but please do enlighten me.. It was whining like a bitch before the clutch (I think it was the clutch) went out, its been hardparked for a while, but I'm almost ready to go back to it. Ive moved the car by starting in first and think I still hear the whining.. t.i.a.

i would never run a used auto trans because i have seen to many used ones turn out being as bad as the one u replaced. now a manual trans is a different story i have seen lots of manual trannys that were used turn out ok. i would say it depends on the circumstances. if there is a way to test the trans befour purchace that would be great but if you have the extra cash rebuilt is the best and most reliable route

Replaced the original about 4 years ago, and yeah, talking about a manual tranny.

iv seen manual trans with bearing whine last for another 100k pretty normal.

^i'm getting nauseating fumes and if the clutch is gone, might as well change the whining tranny as well, no?

oooh man, you must have never had your auto tranny rebuilt huh??? worst fix ever on my car... i begged my parents when i first got my maxima to let me junkyard a tranny instead of a rebuild... but they insisted on doin a rebuild.. (i cant complain i didnt pay for it i just deal with neck breaking shifts now) lol, they had it rebuilt and it has never shifted smooth since! u pull it is way cheaper than a rebuild and wont shift like shit... i know the op has a manual but im just saying to prove a point!

I SERIOUSLY HAVE TO PEDDLE MY CAR TO GET IT TO SHIFT RIGHT OTHER WISE, AND ANYONE OF MY BUDDIES WILL TELL YOU, IT BREAKS NECKS NO JOKE!

(my dad was sympathetic to my pleas but my mom just doesnt understand!)
