He actually raced stock cars and drags for years. He was at the opening of Daytona Speedway and worked there forever, that's how I met a lot of the drivers. We had a dinner remembering him about a year ago and Richard Petty came and talked

I have pictures in my house of when the speedway was just the small little stands like the ones you would see at a high school football game haha.
But later in life, he was only racing midgets for a while. He drove at places like New Smyrna, OSW, Zephyrhills and what not. He was fixing something on the car, decided to test, didn't put anything back in on the car- roll bar, harnesses, not even helmet- came around the last corner, something broke in the suspension, and he slid under one of the big push start jeeps.
He fought for months in and out of rehab, and actually made a huge recovery (was walking again, etc) and then got sepsis and died six months after the accident.
Sucks.
