Overheated, yet running better.

Ok so the other day i was doing my whole system so i had the car on so it doesnt kill the battery. And im in the trunk working with the amps and i go in the car(the car has been on for a GOOD while) and i look at the meter and it was like 95% all the way up, close to the H so i hurry and turn off the car and let it cool down. Recently it had been smoking a bit, and i thought it was the valve seals or something i dunno. I turn on the car an hour later its fine, and it doesnt smoke or NOTHING. So yesterday im at a friends house and i open the hood and the coolant resovoir(which was full of coolant) was gone. I thought SHIT i blew my head gasket, but the car is running perfect, no smoke no nothing. So i filled it up with water and so far so good i have to check it soon see if the water disappears. Anyone have ideas, is my engine ok? It only has about 106k miles. Im thinking maybe the coolant just evaporated or something. What do you think??

When ur car gets hot so does the coolant which builds up pressure. Ur radiator cap is set to a certain pressure. Once the coolant reaches and pass ur rad cap pressure setting the cap will open and vent the pressure along with coolant into ur over flow can. Once pressure drops the cap will close, but now ur coolant level is low. And pressure has dropped and coolant has cooled, ur radiator will draw back the overflowed coolant back into the system. That's why when ur car was reading that hot level the overflow was full and after a day of drivng it was empty!

If ur concerned with a headgasket problem, do a compression test on all cylinders. Check ur oil for proper level and look for coolant in the oil(will have a milkshake look and consisanty) and do the same with ur coolant. If all test pass, ur good togo.

I also think that ur car stoped smoking has nothing todo with the overheating issue! Wait a couple of days, it will probly come back.

Also what ru u using for a radiator and for fans? Are u using the proper 50/50 coolant to water mixture? There is no reason why ur car sitting still should over heat if ur cooling system is working properly!

Problem is Clutch Fan =/ and yes coolant was nice and green when i bought the car lol. I checked all the oil and stuff i know how to do all that but i never thought of the radiator cap doing that THANKS! Ive never done a comresion check on the pistons, how do i do it? need a special tool?

And the radiator is stock.
