We are a group of few that admire the sport. NASCAR has a huge name and many see the fun in it. Drifting overcoming NASCAR is still years away from happening. Most people I speak to are still oblivious to what drifting is.

ya, it's going to take alot, but I think American motorsports is starting to move away from just oval/short track racing and more towards a European style road racing. For example, I had never seen such huge coverage of the 24 at Daytona until this year...and more and more NASCAR drivers are jumping into it. I think alot of euro/japanese motorsports is starting to influence American culture for the better. Like you said, it will take alot of years to see drifting overcome NASCAR, but I already see the trend beginning.
 
Drifting might overcome NASCAR, but it will take generations. We are the new generation, and this is our sport. The old farts that are already stuck with NASCAR will never change. They might accept our sport, but their choice is always sealed.

+1. Only down side will be that people can give drifting a bad name...as alot do already...by being retarded in the streets and not being responsible. Kinda hard to take a 800+ hp piece of sheet metal...somehow resembling a charger or Taurus... down the street without killing yourself. Not to say drifting is easy either, but with mostly all pro drift cars being available to anyone and such a huge aftermarket for them, it opens the door for alot of people to give it a bad rap.

yeah i totally understand haha i would have been studdering like the water boy if i was in front of the camera. maybe at moroso we can get near the 80 mph mark, that would diffenitly be killer.
