I can sum up Christianity in 3 words

the common misconception with religious beliefs is that you all assume that there is only one. How do you know that? how do you know that gods not up there chillin with buddha and zeus and who ever...do you know that jesus was not born from mary but was married to her...bet you didnt know that. All religions are borrowed concepts from other religions can you honestly say that the image that we have of god is our own of just borrowed from the greeks concept of zeus?

So are we to just live and die with no expected ending? Or, are we expected to evolve spiritually to praise and Honor Jesus Christ as our Savior? Preferably, I would want the latter, due to the inevitable death we as humans will succomb to. To think that you would go through your whole life and not believe and should have, and find yourself eternally in hell with a thirst never quenched. Or asking Jesus Christ for forgiveness and believe that he died for us and paid a debt we owed and could never repay. Just acknowledging that places you as a newborn child of God and through Jesus only can you reach Heaven. Which is where I would preferably be.
It is NOT following Pat Roberts, or Jack Van Impe or Charles Stanley, but following "Christ," they are only dispensing the word from the Holy Book "The Bible." Just like any expert would in their respective studies. Cling to earthly possesions that have no warranty for eternal life. We all know there is good and evil in this world. Satan does not care for those unforgiven, he knows where they are going, but he IS at Heavens door battling for the Souls who are trying to enter. You can go on believing in evolution, that is Man's decisions, not God's. After all man has a choice it is called free will. Yes Jesus did heal supernaturally to prove to the unbelievers that he was the Son of Man, and yes there were unbelievers as well and after he rose He chose to call them "Doubting Thomas' for those that needed to see".
In the Old Testament whole races were wiped out, by God's chosen people Israel or by supernatural power, because they worshipped other Gods or were wicked in their ways (secular). The tools to use them were Earthquakes, tidal waves volcanoes, fire to name a few, but when in the times of trouble or disaster I don't hear people calling out "Oh my Allah," Oh My Wind, "Oh My Fire," "Oh My Satan," etc..., They Call out "OH MY GOD and start praying. The shortest distance to a solution when a problem crisis arises is your knees and the floor.

All cultures have different gods and different ways of showing their faith **as long as they do not hurt anyone else** who am I to say that they are wrong for what they beleave? Most are on the same track but the details are different (example christians and jews) it's stupid to fight over the details which for the most part were made up by men who wanted control over the population... "if you do this THEN you go to hell" well of course a uneducated farm worker is going to listen to something like that... look into history, most of the "rules" were made up by people who wanted power over the population.
I beleave what I personally feel is right not what someone else tells me to beleave.. I am a christian but I don't choose a specific faith "catholic etc.."

japan101 good insightful post, i give u major props for all that writing. i believe in god, and I am a "christian" yet i have my doubts in many things. i definetly dont like how bush uses religion in politics as he does, and i dont always go to church nor follow the scripture word for word. but i still have faith and accepted christ into my life and have helped a couple others find him in my more faithful times. College and maturing has kinda made me more free thinking and sometimes questioning. but in the end i still have faith.

i think you have the Mary's mixed up. Mary was his mother's name ("the virgin Mary") and the other Mary who the Davinchi code talks about was Mary Magdaline, not his mother. Plus, what would Davinchi know about Jesus that we wouldn't. He was born over a thousand after Jesus died. His painting is not of the real last supper it is a guess to what it looked like. There isn't any mention in the bible of Mary being their. It was the 11 apostles (not including judas who was there for half the time) and Jesus.

New testiment was writen after jesus' death. They seem different because there's a minimum of a 500 year gap. Try to compare some 20th century literature to some 15th, 14th, 13th century things. There will be major differences. Some books were written before the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem (70 ce) but most were after. When the bible was cannonized, the date that they were written were taken into account. If the book was written years after any eyewitnesses of Jesus had died they werent used. This is why "the gospel of Thomas", "prophetic books of enoch", and others are not included in most bibles.

Technically nobody's read the dead sea scrolls. Parts of the scrolls can't even be translated b/c they are missing text while other parts can't be translated b/c nobody knows what the words mean! The dead sea scrolls are the same as the bible though...written by man to interpret or explain certain parts of the bible. It also tells of buried treasures and a guideline to live in the time it was written - the age of the Messiah.
Personally, my faith is with God. I do not "believe" in any religion but I do believe there is a God simply b/c it's too hard for me to imagine all this life just happening from nothing. Maybe it was the years of Catholic school? I'm not so sure Jesus was "the Messiah" either.

I totally agree, man. I proudly accept the fact that there are many other religions out there and for all we know we could all be right or wrong about our religions. We were raised in different parts of the world and different parts of the world have different beliefs and ways of life, so granted, I say the least we can do as humans is accept the cultures and beliefs of everyone else.

oh btw, buddah reached enlightenment. Nothingness, void of thinking, movement, anything. That doesn't sound that good to me.
And for all we know, the buddhists probably think we worship a superhero. I know you weren't spiting me or anything like that, but I just wanted to say that I think one must respect the beliefs of others if they want their own beliefs to be respected as well. Go Jesus!
I have to say, I woulda never expected to see such a moving (and perhaps controversial) thread on this forum. Takes a hell of a community to actually share their thoughts and not flame each other out their respective windows.
