Cams and SR VCT

My question is, how would VCT make HKS 264/272 cams behave? Would my powerband change or should I get Cam gears as well and get rid of VCT?

My last question is, for quick response would straight 264 cams work well with a gt30xx turbo. any suggestions would be appreciated.

Depends on how you plan on tuning.

Lots of guys leave the VTC.

Just depends on your tuning solution.

You have to get NVCS compatible cams. A lot of guys looking for big power just get rid of the NVCS by getting an s13 sr intake cam and gear (or adjustable sprockets). You'll get more power in the end spending time on a dyno w/ adjustable sprockets but you'll need a tuner that knows his ass from a whole in the wall and all the dyno time will cost you a lot of monies in the end. If you're not going adjustable, then retaining the VCT should yield more power than not.

I ran c1 cams with a GT3071r (.63) on a non-vct blacktop and liked the setup alot. You have to change springs/retainers w/ those cams but you're talking HKS step 2's anyway. Staggering cams is one of those things where you'll hear more bs about it than actual facts. Talk to an experienced SR tuner - they'll be able to provide you with enough dyno graphs for you to make a sound decision (Martin XAT has a ton).
