just bought some cams from someone else on the forum for my S14 but he gave them to me in a box with 4 cams i have 97 icam with a green band painted around it and then i have 3 91 cams but two of them have brown color band painted on them and the other one has a yelow band painted around it. does anyone know which colors are for intake and which are for the exhaust?

The s13 and s14 intake and exhaust cams are interchangeable. The s14 cams are 232 degrees of duration intake and exhuast. The s13 cams are 240 degree's on the intake side, and the exhaust is 248 degrees of duration.

**** I think there is some kind of problem with the cam timing if you start using a 248\248 setup or something where you have to retard the exhuast side because the valves with interfear with the piston. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU TAKE IT UPON YOUR SELF TO FIND OUT IF THIS IS TRUE, OR TURN THE ENGINE OVER BY HAND BEFORE STARTING TO ENSURE NO INTERFEARANCE.***********

The lift on the s13 (92+) and s14 kade engine's cams are .350". According to http://www.pdm-racing.com/products/cam_corner.html the 1991 s13 exhaust cam is .367" of lift. ((This is supposably why the '91 cams are bettAr. .017" inches of total lift on the exhuast cam.)

As you can see on my crower v2 cams that I bought, the exhaust cam has the distributor gears on it, it is labled with green paint. The distributor gears are origionally there for the fwd ka, crower slacked and said they were for rwd too, I had to do some machining to fit them. You can see the exhaust distributor drive on the back side of the cam painted with green.

You will not be able to distinguish the differences in the cam durations by looking at them. You would have to have a special machine that measures duration, You could measure with drafting calipers the overall height of a non 91 cam and a real 91 cam to determine if it has the addition lift you might seek.

Providing the paint colors are accurate, the green one would be a (s14) 232 duration on the exhuast side, the brown ones are probaby the exhuast side which previously were orange that were discolored with oil, which could be s14 232 duration or s13 240 duration. I dont know what the yellow paint is, other then another variation of orange which has changed color because of the oil.

IMO I dont think its worth it to be switching around unknown cams for where most of the gains are going to be in your mind. ya ya w\e switching power band rpm ranges. I still have the 232 cams in my car.

Search FA and Nico for more information about cam swapping in kade's.
